Steven Gilbert

Senior Partner, Practice Leader, Executive Assessment, Private Equity

Bio

Dr. Steven Gilbert works out of the Philadelphia office and is a senior partner serving as the firm’s global private equity lead and as the leader of the firm’s Executive Assessment practice, overseeing innovation, quality, and impact for a large portion of the business.

Steven began his career as a medical professional with the English National Health Service and was responsible for the leadership of numerous mental-healthcare units. During this time, he came to recognize that quality healthcare at the unit level was heavily dependent on the positive functioning of the system surrounding it. This realization led to his career-long interest in systems analysis and the leadership required to effect lasting change and heighten organizational performance.

As a consultant today, Steven combines his background in healthcare with degrees in political science and counseling psychology to bring a unique perspective to organizational transformation and human performance. Over the past 13 years, Steven has worked with Fortune 100 companies, family businesses, and founder-run startups as a trusted advisor to CEOs and their leadership teams.

Steven has led the charge in developing RHR’s private equity vertical. He is responsible for all aspects of the business unit, from strategy and vision to sales and execution. He continues to broaden the impact RHR has in the private equity space, working with both general partners and their portfolio companies to drive value through leadership.

Steven’s experience extends beyond private equity to include consumer packaged goods, technology, the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, financial services, and hospitality among others. He has managed large teams of consultants to deliver high-impact projects and currently oversees some of RHR’s most prominent client relationships.

Steven earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of York in England. He received a master’s and PhD in counseling psychology from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Having lived and worked on three different continents, Steven brings a global mindset to his consultancy. He carries both a British and Canadian passport, holds a U.S. Green Card, and is an official Person of Indian Origin—an ancillary benefit of being married to an Indian woman for the past 20 years. He has one daughter who describes herself as half British, half Indian—but a whole Canadian! Steven likes to keep fit through running and playing squash and has been trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to break par on the golf course for most of his life. . .but he’s very close!
